Privacy
Balde Runner is a free browser game. It has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. This page lists everything the game stores, where, and why.
What the leaderboard stores
The online leaderboard is optional. The game only contacts it when you open the leaderboard (it asks for the top scores and for your rank, which sends your anonymous device ID) or when you start a run. A score is only stored if you submit it.
| Data | Why | Shown to others |
|---|---|---|
| Name you type (2 to 16 characters) | Shown on the leaderboard. Please do not use your full real name or any personal details. | Yes |
| Province you pick | Province leaderboards | Yes |
| Score, distance (metres) and litres of rainwater, and the date and time the score was submitted | The leaderboard itself, and the daily board | Yes |
| Run length in seconds and the start time of the run | Checking that a score is real | No |
| Anonymous device ID (a random code made by the game, not linked to your identity) | Keeping one best score per device, finding your own rank, and limiting spam | No |
| Hashed IP address (a one-way scramble of your IP address, never the address itself) | Rate limiting, so one connection cannot flood the leaderboard | No |
A run record (device ID, start time and hashed IP) is created each time you start a run, even if you never submit a score. Hashed IP addresses are removed after 7 days, because the rate limit only looks back one hour. Unfinished run records are deleted after 7 days. Submitted scores, with your name and province, stay until the leaderboard is reset or you ask us to remove them.
What stays in your browser
The game saves a few things on your own device, in your browser's storage (not in cookies), and they never leave it except where listed above:
- Your best score, distance and litres
- The last name and province you used, so you do not have to type them again
- The anonymous device ID described above
- Your sound setting, and whether you have seen the how-to screen
- A cached copy of the game files, so it loads faster next time
You can clear all of this at any time from your browser's site settings. Clearing it resets your local best score and gives you a new device ID, so your earlier leaderboard entries will no longer count as yours.
No ads, trackers or cookies
Balde Runner shows no ads, runs no analytics, and does not set cookies. The page loads nothing from third parties: no external scripts, fonts or trackers. The only other server the game talks to is the leaderboard database, described above.
Who handles the data
The game files are hosted by Vercel. The leaderboard database is hosted by Supabase (Singapore region). Like any web host, both may keep standard technical server logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security and operations. We do not sell data or share it with anyone else.
Your choices
To have your leaderboard entries removed, email hello@niomartinez.com with the name, province and approximate score you used. Because scores are not linked to an account, we can only find them from those details. Questions about this page go to the same address.
Children
The game is a light satire meant for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The leaderboard asks only for a nickname, which should never be a real full name.
